Looking for family-friendly spots in San Antonio to hang out with your kids? There are plenty of attractions that fit the bill where your kids will be engaged and entertained. San Antonio is a city rich in culture, history, and a uniquely Texan charm. Here’s a list of some of the things to do in San Antonio with kids.
1. SeaWorld® San Antonio
You simply can’t go wrong with Sea World. The whole family can enjoy animal shows that include penguins, polar bears, and dolphins. They can also get on the roller coaster that reaches speeds of up to 50 miles an hour. Make a point of planning your day around the shows you want to catch. In between shows, you can check out the aquatic animals in their natural habitat. The kids will enjoy the Shamu Express roller coaster and will get the opportunity to meet their favorite Sesame Street characters. You can make great memories with your kids at SeaWorld. Make sure to take photos.
2. Six Flags Fiesta Texas
This is one of the popular theme parks in San Antonio. Kids get to enjoy a ride on roller coasters, water rides, and bumper cars as they explore the 6 distinctly themed park areas. Some of the popular attractions include BATMAN, the Bahama Blaster and Boomerang. Six Flags Fiesta Texas has something in store for every member of the family. The venue also has tons of shows to suit different tastes. There are also amazing dining and shopping experiences available to visitors.
3. Splashtown San Antonio
Just three minutes from downtown San Antonio lies this amazing waterpark. Occupying 20 acres, the park is known for its watery fun, slides, and rides. The whole family, both adults and kids, will have tons of fun exploring all the venue has to offer. The kids will particularly enjoy the Kid’s Kove. It is designed with the little ones in mind and has lily pads, games, splash features, and other facilities. There’s a massive wave pool for older kids and several slides of different difficulty level. There are also beach games such as volleyball.
4. The Amazing Mirror Maze
If your kids love puzzles, then this would be the perfect destination to keep them occupied for a whole day. They’re allowed to go through the mirror maze as many times as they’d like to whilst turning, twisting, and competing with other kids. They can also have an amazing time playing with the “Funny Mirrors”. It distorts their features in silly ways. There’s also the Vault Laser Challenge where they are expected to cross a room without intersecting with the myriad of lasers beaming across the room. It’s absolute unadulterated fun for them.
This is an excellent family friendly burger joint in San Antonio. Here, you can have made-to-order burgers, chicken, salads, fries, sandwiches, and hotdogs. You can get giant kids’ meals while mom and dad grab a beer or wine with their meals. The burgers are enormous and come with multiple toppings. Big’z has outdoor seating and a backyard with trees where kids can play. While there are toys available for kids, you can always bring some with you.
6. San Antonio Zoo
The zoo is located in a beautiful park next to a free Japanese garden known for pictures. You’ll find exotic birds, reptiles, monkeys, and other animals at the zoo. The zoo is quite small and this works to its advantage since small kids can walk through most of it without getting tired. One of the biggest draws with the zoo is the butterfly garden. You can touch and play with the butterflies as much as you want. Your kids will have tons of fun doing this. Just outside the zoo, you can get a train ride that can get you to other destinations such as the Witte Museum.
7. Natural Bridge Caverns Discovery Tour
You can go on a guided tour 180 feet below the ground and travel almost half a mile through the largest cavern in San Antonio. This will take you about 90 minutes. The Natural Bridge Caverns are the perfect hangout for kids who love adventure. You’ll learn about the history and science resulting in the formation of the caverns. While it’s a great place to hang out with the whole family, it’s not a particularly ideal place for very young kids. Other than exploring the caverns, the kids can also zipline and have fun on a ropes course outdoors. Less adventurous families can take part in the rock mining challenge. Make sure everyone wears a pair of comfortable shoes with enough traction to withstand the wet surfaces. Don’t forget to carry a camera to capture the special moments. This is one of the things to do in San Antonio with kids.
