How To Unclog A Bathroom Sink in 5 Simplest Ways?

Due to the amount of hair, toothpaste, shaving cream, and other debris that it takes in every day, it is very common for a bathroom sink to become clogged.

While your first reaction maybe to call a plumber to have this addressed, a better would be to try unclogging it yourself first. This can save you both time and money. There are five tips from express rooter that you can follow that could help you to easily unclog your bathroom sink at home.

1. Manual Approach

While it may be a bit gross, using your hand could be a good way to clear out any high clogs. To do this, you will need to turn off the water to the sink and take out the p-trap. You should then put on a pair of sturdy gloves and try to run your finger through the drain hole.

You could also use a wire hanger to try and clear out any debris that runs a little bit deeper. This will help to clear out a lot of debris, which will be good enough to allow water to pass through.

2. Plunger

Another great home plumbing tip would be to use a plunger. A plunger is a very handy tool that is frequently used to unclog toilets and drains.

When you are using it in your bathroom sink, you need to place the entire plunger over the drain opening. By then thrusting up and down a few times, you could dislodge the items clogging the drain. You may need to remove the debris manually as it could have been pulled back up into the sink.

3. Drain Snake

Another common tool that you can use to clear out a clog in your sink is a drain snake. A drain snake is a long device that you can move through your drain. A snake at times can extend to several feet in length, which will allow you to reach deeper into the drain than using a wire hanger.

By moving the snake around, you will be able to grab onto debris and then pull it out. Before using the snake, you will need to remove the p-trap and drain cover.

4. Boiling Water

A very natural and easy way to clean out some clogs would be to use boiling water. When using this method, you will first need to wait for any water to slowly drain out.

You can then use your kitchen stove to boil some water, which should then be slowly poured into the drain. This is often enough to break apart the debris, which can then be easily moved through your plumbing system.

5. Remove Pipe

Finally, if the other methods are not working, removing some of the exposed pipes could be your best bets. By removing some drain pipes, you will be able to clean out the pipes and remove any existing debris.

The next time that you use your sink, the water will move through much more smoothly. When removing the pipe, make sure to turn off the water and place a bucket under the pipe opening.
