Chelsea FC move into YouTube

{ Tags: \ Feb16 }

The Media Guardian reports that Chelsea (boo!) have struck a deal with YouTube to create their own branded YouTube page where they’ll show archive footage from the club’s subscription channel. The Media Guardian says: “The site will feature daily news updates, archive footage of Chelsea games, and other features including jokes from Chelsea physio Billy McCulloch. Restrictions in the Premier League’s broadcast contract means live footage will not be shown.”

The page can be found at www.youtube.com/chelseafc. Take a look, it’s quite snazzy and well branded. What is apparent though is that Chelsea (boo!) are obviously paying for this page as the banner advertising you usually see on a YouTube page has been stripped out. Personally, I think this is aligned predominantly with Chelsea’s (boo!) global expansion. What better platform to help bring in foreign supporters?

We’re seeing more and more of these branded YouTube pages lately. This one, the Cadbury’s Cream Egg page I linked to yesterday and the Holiday Wishcast Coca-Cola did on the run up to Christmas. I think we’ll start to see a lot more of them - particularly if these stats continue.

That said, let me leave you with some of Alan Shearer’s greatest goals: ;)

    As we’re on an anti-chelsea bent, it makes me laugh whenever someone compares Lampard and Gerrard.

    Lampard is a shoot-or-pass-right player with a great engine and a deflection he seems to carry in his kit bag.

    Stevie GG is one of the world’s most complete players.

    Couldn’t agree more. Gerard can turn games around and win them single handedly.
