This is a post from guilt
Posted Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at 1:11pm in Blogging |
It’s been 15 days since my last post so I’m feeling a little guilty about the recent lack of content. In fact, it’s the longest time this blog has been inactive since its humble beginnings. It’s surprising, though, how guilty a lot of bloggers feel in similar circumstances. To quote Tyler Durden from Fight Club: “The things you own end up owning you”. There’s some truth in that. But then you should ask yourself “does anyone really care about the lack of content?” Probably not.
So, this post is now moving from a self-centred apology, as demonstrated in the paragraph above, to something of informative value, for you, dear reader.
Congratulations
On three counts. First to Drew B who is featured in the recent edition of PR Week as one of the top 29 under 29. Having worked under Drew for three weeks, I’m not surprised one bit. He really knows his stuff. Second to Antony Mayfield who’s got himself a job at search engine marketing company, Spannerworks. Antony gives his ten reasons for moving and I particularly like point six. He’s a big advocate of R&D in PR so we should expect to hear about some exciting stuff in the future. And last, but by no means least, congratulations to Alex. She’s only went and got herself a PR degree! Bravo!
Silicon Alley
Good article in the Guardian about how UK Internet start-ups are thriving but are using the North East as their headquarters as opposed to London. In fact, Newcastle has its own area named Silicon Alley because of the influx of tech businesses locating there. Cool.
Confession
You may have noticed Simon Collister has a new blog up and running called eDemocracy Update? In Simon’s words, it’s “a blog monitoring democracy, politics and public policy as it adapts to new media and social networking.” A post of his titled ‘Tony Blair starts blogging‘ mentions a recent post by Blair on the Guardian’s Comment is Free blog. Well, Simon asks for Blair’s thoughts, so I cheekily made a comment pretending to be the PM himself.
I know, maa bad! But think about that for a second. It’s very easy for an individual to make comments on any blog while pretending to be someone else. Who’s making comments under your name without you knowing?
I think Simon has sussed me anyway as he’s mentioned it in his last two emails. Am I right Simon? ![]()
Hacker and spammers
Someone tried to gain access into this blog yesterday. In fact they did. There’s a feature in WordPress that allows anyone to register and stupid me didn’t have it turned off. Luckily I saw it pretty quick, deleted their account and turned off the feature. Phew!
As for spammers, look at the Flickr photo on this blog’s homepage. Grrr!
This song is dedicated to Drew, Antony and Alex … congratulations! Take it away Cliff!

Thank you very much.
Also speaking of the Guardian you may wish to purchase this Saturday’s for the Rise section, you’ll never guess who might be in it reviewing some job hunting books!
Shameless self-plugging aside, Mr Davies, with this Cliff cheese-fest you are really spoiling us…

Thanks Philip,
Wasn’t sure if I could announce it as I haven’t received the official piece of paper yet.
More than happy with it though!
