Supermarket chain Tesco now has RSS feeds for their deals of the day.
Well as the slogan goes: “every little helps!”
I Got National Coverage
Posted at 8:57pm in PR General | 7 Comments
This may not be no big deal to you seasoned PR practitioners, but I got coverage for a client I’ve been working with in the UK Sunday tabloid, News of the World. It was only four paragraphs, but to be honest, I’m pretty proud of myself! I’ve received coverage from local newspapers in the past but never a national until yesterday. My national newspaper virginity is broken.
Maybe I should set up a “shameless promotion” category?

Blog Back Up…phew!
Posted Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 6:28pm in Blogging | 1 Comment
After a scary couple of days and an emotional post on Blake’s blog, I’ve managed to get my blog back up and running. My host was switching hosts and managed to lose all the content and design of my blog! VERY LUCKILY! Lee, the guy who installed some plugins for me a couple of weeks back, made a back up of all my files. Turns out I only lost a couple of weeks posting and the content out of a couple of static pages are gone, including my “About” page, hence the dodgy Latin that’s in there now. Although my RSS feed is still the same, I had to re-subscribe it to my subscriptions before it started picking up my new posts again. So perhaps some people who are subscribed to this blog won’t receive updates. Please visit this blog and re-subscribe my feed.
*Lesson learnt*
Always back up, back up, back up! Just like you do with your Word docs, music and other important files. Although money is an important factor, it was more of the time and effort I have put in to my blog! It’s a scary thought to imagine it all gone in a puff of smoke!
Another Interesting Use for a Blog

New Home Blogs is a web log set up help and advise home buyers about the pitfalls of buying a new home in the UK. It says:
“New home blogs has been set up to provide the Internet community with unbiased personal accounts of the new build buying process from reservation to legal exchange, through to snagging, running your new home in and getting your dream home finished to standard.”
It looks as though they have three people who are in the middle of building or buying homes blogging on the problems faced, and it seems as though they’re having one or two!
Original concept though.

Niche Journalism and the Beauty of it
Posted at 9:19pm in Blogging | Leave a Comment
The Democratizing Media blog has a post on how blogging can help niche journalism such as people writing about science issues and topics. Blogging, as a tool, can be used by scientists to share their knowledge to their peers or enquiring minds from outside of the science circles.
This also could be said for a number of topics. PR, for instance is a niche. There are limited publications and periodicals on PR and there certainly aren’t any radio or TV programmes that focus on the profession. This is where blogging and podcasting come in. Every PR blogger I’m subscribed to are my publication and every communication podcast I listen to are my radio programme. When vlogging enters the bigger stage, I’m hoping I may get my PR TV show. Imagine that?
That’s the beauty of all this. Blogging, podcasting and vlogging bring similar minds together. I still find it amazing and bizarre that I participate in conversations with PR practitioners from all around the world! Sharing, listening to, and discussing ideas. How cool is that?
